The 25 Best Christmas Books That Teens Won’t Want To Put Down
Looking for good Christmas books for teens (most of which also are fabulous for tweens)? That everyone will enjoy? These holiday books are wonderful for family read-alouds, and they go beyond the usual suspects giving you something way more valuable than another “just” a book: time together.
With the holidays around the corner, I'm starting to think about Christmas presents for my two teenage boys. Toys, gadgets, and clothes came to mind, but it's hard to find the perfect gift for this age. They are particular! (IYKYK)
That's when I came back to basics: books. Not just any books—read-alouds. The kind we can experience together.
I thought back to the first “pandemic” Christmas, December of 2020, when our local bookstore came up with a genius idea: a curated Advent calendar of books, individually collected based on the age and interests of my boys. I picked up a big box with twenty-five individually wrapped and numbered books. Some were picture books, some chapter books—but all were beautifully selected and thoroughly enjoyable.
There was a thrill each morning ripping open the book of the day to see what we had gotten—better than even a piece of chocolate. (Although there were mornings we had those too.)
As we read aloud, the books gave us time together, something to talk about, a common experience. Nothing was forced. No “how was your day” met with a, “fine.” Easy, organic conversations. The kind that happens sideways, like when you're driving and they're in the back seat not making eye contact – when you're not looking at each other, and when you're both focused on something else.
That's the magic of reading together with big kids. It's a connection dressed in story time clothing.

You're Never Too Old for a Picture Book
